This washed Kenyan Peaberry comes from Machakos County (central/eastern Kenya) and is a “fly crop” (secondary harvest) processed at the Kaliluni Factory, the only washing station of the Kaliluni Farmer Cooperative Society, part of the Machakos Cooperative Union. Grown at 1700–1900 meters above sea level (varieties SL-28, SL-34, Ruiru 11, and Batian) by 1,659 smallholder farmers, it offers a sweet and very drinkable cup, with a chocolate and caramel base and an intense, lemon-like citrus acidity; what stands out most is its red fruit character (strawberry-like) with a subtle hint of orange.
